Common collocations with "love"

Watch this to put you in the mood for love

O.K. ..so we all know the expression " to be in love" and probably " to fall in love" .

What about 'love at first sight'? Have you ever met a person that you fell in love with immediately?

Do you agree with the expression that 'love is blind'? Do you think that when you love a person you cannot see their faults?

In our society many people hope to marry the 'love of their life' - that one special person who you will love more than anyone else.

If you want to know if a friend is in love, you can ask "How is your love life?"

Certainly you don't want to spend too much time with friends who are acting lovey-dovey - it can be a bit embarassing when people show excessive affection in public.

But of course 'love' is not used to talk only about romantic relationships or marriage....

To make love is to have sex,  and a love affair is a relationship with a person you are not married to. Sometimes things can become complicated, for example in a love triangle of the type where John loves mary, but Mary loves James...but perhaps the least romantic use of the word is to describe love handles of the type you can see in the picture below:

But then...if they are called love handles maybe there is a reason!
